Random Ramblings: Confronting Fear & Doubt
After settling into this apartment, I’ll be honest: my focus has been completely shot. While I have some money saved up, I have been spending it on rent and other things that I shouldn’t be spending it on, i.e. eating out way too often and going to the movies.
Two months ago, I was just a tad bit more confident. As the money dwindles in my account, I grow a little more worried. Even though I have enough to pay rent for quite a few times, as the money drains ever so (seemingly) fast from my account, there’s a slight sense of panic…and excitement.
As far as I can recall, I have always worked better under pressure. My papers were better when I wrote them 2-3 days ahead of time instead of 2 weeks before the deadline, my programming assignments came together only moments before submission deadlines, my projects at work were only impressive right when they were needed…… and perhaps that’s the trickiest part of trying to establish passive income streams online.
Not only is making money online a completely “new thing” for me (that I discovered late last year), but I have had to learn about SEO, WordPress, delve into the world of writing thanks to EIP, push on with affiliate marketing and other ways of making money online, tools to aid me in my passive income endeavors. And the one thing that’s holding me back: creating backlinks. Oh what a monstrosity! The tedious work that goes behind making money online through niche sites, mini-sites, whatever you want to call them–it truly is for the hardworking man or woman.
Back to the “making money online” being a tricky thing–all the things listed above take time to build, especially creating quality links, not a 2-3 day process as far as I’ve learned.
I Will Own the World
You see, words are just that: words. A lot of us find it easy to say ‘I know I’m going to make it’ or ‘Tomorrow I’ll create 20 backlinks’ but it’s not that easy, is it? If you’re using a tool to create 20 backlinks, then I’m sure hours and hours went into finding the right tool; if you’re creating backlinks manually, then you better open up a notebook, create some notes, open up 5-10 tabs and better start creating filling those forms, click on those confirmation links in your email and fill in some profile information as unique as possible for each one of those accounts!
Why Create This Post
One thing that I always miss when reading other ‘successful’ blogs is that you only get the pretty picture. You don’t get to read about the failure or difficulties as they are happening. My intention with EIP was to follow my progress, to show everything (unlike some gurus out there); hence, these weak moments will also be documented.
However, even through these weak moments, I know that they are just that–moments. They will pass. I’ll get more organized, zero in on my weaknesses, and everything will come out for the better. At the very least, I took a gamble in my life when it would be most reasonable to do so.
At the very best, I’m going to succeed, have fun on the way, shed as much light into the process that I can and share any and all insights with you.
Oh and I can’t help it, one of my faves:
“And what it all comes down to
Is that I haven’t got it all figured out just yet
’cause I’ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving the peace sign”

Hi! My name is Moon Hussain and I'm here to share all the strategies that I'll be experimenting with to earn passive income.
Hey Moon,
I really feel where you are with this at the moment. It takes a serious amount of work, something which I agree with you, is never stressed sufficiently by the big blogs.
A few weeks back I came to the realisation that it’s quite a lonely adventure, and it dawned on me that the big bloggers support each other. I’m sure you’re on numerous mailing lists. Each and every one of them has advertised popup domination – you can’t miss it.
I figured, I’m feeling low, I’ve read so much, and I’d like to have people around me on a similar adventure – so I set up the network group I have on Skype.
I figured that with like minded people, we can spur each other on to succeed, and help out with various issues, or just discuss different marketing strategies etc.
It’s helped me to no end – it’s guarenteed tweets by people with bigger followers than I have.
I think it’s important that you focus on your goals, and what you want to achieve. Remind yourself of them when you are feeling low and unmotivated. I’ve found the key is don’t force yourself to work. Your productivity will sink, and will be all the harder to recover.
Mark Bell´s last blog ..How I make my readers feel valued
Mark, I have a personal finance blog that is networking with a group called the Yakezie (started last year). It definitely has boosted all 100 of us!
1. It created a bunch of backlinks for the creator
2. It selflessly promotes all of us
3. It has help rank all of us on the some of the Top PF blog lists.
So starting a network group or finding one to join is definitely key! And you’re right…it can be very lonely at times.
As for you Moon, you have the classic type A personality. I do the same last minute things, too. You’ll get far with it… only if you don’t frazzle yourself before hand. Make sure you have frugal outlets to recenter yourself with that don’t delve in Affiliate marketing, etc…
Christine | Money Funk´s last blog ..Alternative Health Care Approach
Christine, that’s really neat. My personality has shifted a lot but it seems I do really good work under pressure, as much as I hate being under pressure, haha. I forget to indulge in other things that I love…… will def. take your advice. Thanks!
Mark, you’re right–I’ve heard about PD everywhere. Thanks for contacting me through Twitter, I will get back to you soon. I need my reminders set in place. Part of the problem is that my old “office room” had this poster board up with all my goals on it. I haven’t done that here, yet…. looks like it’s time too.
Thanks!
I find it helps me when I set my goals for each week in work for what I’d like to do/achieve. It may help with you settling in and easing the worries?
Mark Bell´s last blog ..How accessible are you to your readers
It all comes down to this: do work == get money + get paid (ppc.bz).
Life’s good. I haven’t slept in 18 hours, currently sat in costa cafe at stansted airport, flying some place (again). When did life get this “busy” for me, lol.
Moon, start keeping track of your finances. Like an Excel spreadsheet or w/e. It helps a lot. I’s also funfunfun. Last year my spreadsheet read – “projected profits in September: ~$1500″, now I’m looking at ~$28k after all expenses, and that’s being very pesimistic (I always massively underestimate my future earnings – good fun).
Wish I had more time eh.
bay37com´s last blog ..Just 5 Days Left!
I was reading about your advice–keeping track of your budget. I’m on board… I tend to overlook things like that. Why’re you flying around? Hope you enjoy!
I like this post Moon, it’s endearing.
I feel like I know you already but this post just cements the fact that your’e an alright chick – with a bloody good attitude. You ARE going to make it, and I know this because you are honest with yourself about it, so at least there’s not the truth to contend with. That one always gets you
Take care Moon – sent you an invite to join our Skype group – I think it will help, especially on days like today

Alex@nichesitemarketing´s last blog ..The Pop-up opt-in form What do you REALLY think
Ah, is everyone in a group except for me? That’s great Alex, will be on the lookout. Honesty is one thing I can do
Thanks.
Love the thoughts about painting the “pretty picture” because there is the nitty-gritty work and events that happen behind the scenes.
It reminds us that there is drama in real-life and we live in it – we can’t always be happy-go-lucky. It really shows a human side of you when you bring up these problems through a blog – don’t be negative but paint the raw picture.
Murlu´s last blog ..The Single Biggest Reason Why You’re Not Making Money With Your Blog
Very true. We all have our days and it was just one of those. Which is fine because I’m now being more productive
