In The Midst Of A Nor’easter And Passive Income Blues
My road trip isn’t going as I had planned-we are experiencing one of the biggest snow storms we have seen in a while on the east coast. What makes this worse is that we are right on the border of the storm, but I-81 is in horrible condition and earlier it was reported that 400 vehicles were stranded on it. Glad we decided to stay another day here!
Looking at the snow coming down all day, being trapped in a room with two other people, and waiting for food delivery for 1.5 hours, this is where you have your life-defining realizations. I picked up Tim’s new edition of “The 4 Hour Work Week” and re-reading the first two chapters of the book has hit me with a new wave of inspiration. The book has made me question my own decisions and why I’m particularly disturbed about having to stay here longer than unexpected, in this storm.
Sure, we’re all antsy and excited about visiting California; we have been waiting for a year to do this. Abandon the horrible weather here on the east coast and enjoy the beaches and the sun on the west coast. But really, what’s the underlying reason? Why am I so distressed?
I’m distressed because I only have three weeks’ vacation. I held onto my vacation days, using them thoughtfully over the year, building up enough days for this very trip. I have been moping on the east coast for a year, waiting for the trip, and planning a move. In fact, it is a deep desire inside me to travel for a whole year or at least take two three month vacations. So why is reading “The 4 Hour Work Week” such a bittersweet experience for me?
I now realize that passive income isn’t just a hoax or a dream. I wish I had began this journey earlier, so that perhaps today I would be reaping the outcome of that hard work. Knowing all this, I need to stop this kind of thinking. It only hinders your progress and takes over your mind.
In the next six months, I need to establish sources of automated passive income. I need to establish some sort of online “business” where I earn 100% of incoming sales. I am definitely interested in affiliate marketing and sales, and having some experience with that would definitely hep with marketing my own product. I need to experiment with affiliate products, Google Adsense, Yahoo’s ad marketing, plan a budget for this experimentation, and test and create my own product. I want to look back every month starting in January and chart my progress.
I no longer want “passive income” to be a dream term for me. After all, I named my blog “Experiments In Passive Income”–so let the experiments begin!
Do you already have an automated business setup? Are you selling affiliate products/services or have managed to create your own successful product?

Hi! My name is Moon Hussain and I'm here to share all the strategies that I'll be experimenting with to earn passive income.
Hi Moon,
I too saw the effects of the storm. We received 12 inches of snow in central NJ.
As for your goals I would replace the word “need” with the word “want”. Doing what you want to do is the first step toward being happy. When happy, you’ll be balanced. With balance comes a healthy, unattached view of outside conditions – whether they be snowstorms delaying your long-awaited California vacation or flagging passive income totals.
Find something that makes your heart sing and stick with it. The obstacles will melt away.
I am a cash gifting mentor. I believe 100% in the activity. I keep my personal goals front and center everyday; they’re my compass should I stray from goal-achieving activities. This is my success secret.
Thanks for stopping by, Ryan. I understand exactly what you’re saying, but it seems lately that “want”s are getting lost in my every day shuffle. For instance, I “want” to travel the world, I “want” to start bowling…… never seems to happen. I want to make this passive income effort into a need, perhaps I can instantiate some intense desires to realize this “need”. If I “need” it, I’ll go seek it, right?
I’ll be by your site soon to check out more of your material to see what cash gifting is all about!
Hey its looks like we are somewhat at the same place in this passive income race. I had also decide to build a passive income stream in next 6 months.
The only difficulty i am having is with my writing. I am not a good writer, even my English is also not so good. But i have a very good knowledge of how gets thing done. I am good at developing website and codes.
You are willing to sell something, i can’t help you with your product but consider me when its comes to web development.
I am quite busy with my exams. Will contact you later about the wordpress plugins i was talking about.

Azad,
Perhaps you can find someone who can fix your spellings/grammatical errors on Guru or oDesk. If you have good information to share, don’t let this hold you back! Do well on your exams and get back to me when you have time
Moon… You couldn’t have hit this nail more on the head for me if you’d tried. It’s almost as though you took the words right out of my head and posted them on your blog.
Listen, keep focus and always push yourself to move forward and your dream will become reality. I’m on the same journey your on so if you ever need any help from me, ask… I am here for you if you need it.
Take care, have a great trip, and Happy Holidays…
Thanks Jason!
Launching this blog has been a great experience for me. I have found like-minded individual, people who are on a similar path, and it is endearing when so many people are willing to help and share information.
Thanks for the well wishes and the same for you and your family!
Moon, sometimes I have noticed that vacationing is stressful itself, worrying about your spending, time management and dealing with so many factors you can’t control (weather, other people, delayed flights, etc).
Lately I have tried to just enjoy the fact that I am not in my cubicle, spending countless hours photoshoping product images getting them ready for the web, and my day of sitting in the airport people watching is not so bad. (as long as they have a good bar
)
Tyler,
You’re so damn right! Last year, it took us 3 days to drive to CA. This time? 5 days! We were stuck in really bad snow storms. I have to remind myself, however, that at least I can afford this vacation and that I’m not stuck in front of my computer at home.
WB Studios, here I come~!
Hi Moon. Really nice article here. I enjoyed reading it and how you express yourself through your difficulties. I live in California, and although it is very cold here, I can never imagine what bad snow storms would look like (I haven’t touched snow in about ten years). Focus on what you want to get done though and hang in there! I wish you the best and happy holidays.
Hi Hulbert,
Thanks for checking out my blog. Promise to do the same! Well, I’ve dealt with light snow but the road trip here was pretty ugly this year. In Arizona, we saw many cars derailed, trucks as well. Scary stuff. I call it white-knuckle driving!
Thank God we made it. Where in CA do you reside?
CA – is California yes? you’re driving -that’s quite a road trip – though the airport chaos would have made even flying a tricky option. Hope you got to where you wanted to be fairly painlessly. I find that having an online income means that travelling is a whole lot less stressful – as I can earn income anywhere there is a fast Internet connection – I recently moved country -and I wasn’t happy for the 3 days I was offline – talk about addicted!
Yep! CA == California. Yep, it turned out to be a monstrous road trip, esp. compared to last year. Now we’re in San Diego and I’m beyond impressed. It’s beautiful here.
For that exact reason, I need to build passive income, Lis. Obviously I’m addicted to being online is why I check my email most every day. Though, the internet connection sucks!
